Foods that Can Help Boost Focus and Concentration

Achieving focus and concentration is a must for every student or professional. After all it helps achieve goals quickly and efficiently. Fortunately there are ways to boost focus and concentration such that one can meet his short term and long-term objectives. US Food and Drug Administration

One of the oldest and most reliable ways to boost focus and concentration is through food.

Productivity website, ALifeOfProductivity.com discussed in detail food items that can help a person maintain focus and concentration on a task in hand. One of the food items in the list is dark chocolate.

“Dark chocolate (dark chocolate, not the sugary, milky kind) can help you focus for a number of reasons. First, it contains a small amount of caffeine, which has been proven to heighten mental alertness. Dark chocolate contains magnesium, which helps you de-stress, and it also stimulates the release of endorphins and serotonin, which make you feel good and heighten your mood. “

Health.com also made a similar list, saying that apart from a good night’s rest and rehydration, certain food items can help increase concentration and focus. While they mentioned coffee as one of those beverages that can be ingested for that extra boost of energy, they mentioned that certain food items can boost focus for a longer period of time, minus the negative health impact. Productivity Wiki  One of the food items that they have included in their list are blueberries.

“Not only are blueberries wonderfully tasty and rich in antioxidants, but they've also been said to be a memory booster. A 2010 report published by the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry revealed those who drank blueberry juice every day for two months significantly improved their performance on learning and memory tests. Whenever those snack cravings kick in, consider enjoying some fresh, ripe blueberries over sugary sweets any day.”

Eat breakfast

Health website webmd.com has published a slideshow discussing the same subject. And while its list is quite identical with the first two discussed above, theirs include some advice that can help a worker or a student stay focused throughout the day through food. One of their pieces of advice is to make sure to eat a full breakfast. “Tempted to skip breakfast? Studies have found that eating breakfast may improve short-term memory and attention. Students who eat it tend to perform better than those who don’t. Foods at the top of researchers' brain-fuel list include high-fiber whole grains, dairy, and fruits. Just don't overeat; researchers also found high-calorie breakfasts appear to hinder concentration.”

Food can indeed help in boosting concentration, but like any other food item, it should be consumed in moderation.
